VPN/MFA Consultant

The purpose of this consultant is to provide long term consulting and services on the VPN and MFA solutions. The consultant will provide ongoing operational and project support to the CenterPoint team on the Juniper and PulseSecure VPN appliances and the CA MFA product. The consultant will perform an initial health check of the environment and provide recommendations, along with a remediation plan.

The vendor will provide a documented health check of the PulseSecure and MFA environment. The vendor will use the health check data to create a remediation plan. Vendor will execute the remediation plan with CNP staff direction. Vendor will assist in the migration from the current Juniper (non-MFA) environment to the new PulseSecure (MFA) environment. After migration is complete, vendor will assist in decommissioning the older Juniper systems. Vendor will assist in any troubleshooting efforts in both daily activities and project work associated with the VPN environment. Vendor will build documentation on the environment and assist in cross-training other members of the CNP staff on the PulseSecure appliances. When needed, vendor will provide assistance to the CNP administrators on operational issue of the VPN system.

Job Requirements

Scope of Services

•         Consultant will be responsible for providing VPN infrastructure support, which includes installation, implementation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintaining all aspects of Juniper/PulseSecure appliances, and supported infrastructure software.

•         Assist in software product installations, updates, and customizations for VPN infrastructure.

•         Diagnose, research and resolve VPN issues using vendor resources and other support methods. Act as a technical advisor for system related activity and assist in the development / implementation of solutions for performance.

•         Document and assist in daily administration of enterprise appliances running VPN including but not limited to performing system health checks, monitoring performance, analyzing event logs, running reports and other activities related to remote access management in an enterprise network environment.

•         When needed, assist CNP staff in the following:

•         Monitor problem queues for VPN MFA environments, identify and resolve issues in the server environment.

•         Implement, migrate, and maintain VPN with MFA environments in dual datacenter configuration.

•         Maintain and update posture checking of VPN clients.

•         Analyze and resolve problems escalated from Desktop Support staff.

•         Identify root causes on server hardware and operating system issues, download, order and replace necessary files, components and/or parts as needed.

•         Interface with Desktop Support staff to communicate the status of problems.

•         Interface with management to identify training opportunities and report on system status.

•         Identify, recommend and participate in changes to environment that impact the user community including but not limited to Service Packs, Upgrades, Patches, Vulnerabilities, and related tasks.

•         Research, analyze, recommend and develop methods to increase productivity and reduce downtown for the user community.

•         Participate in projects as required and utilize standard project management methodologies.

•         Adhere to standard configuration for VPN appliances and recommend changes as needed for improved appliance performance or management.

•         Enable clients to interface with various applications (i.e., software pushes, application picks, system updates, etc.)

•         Identify the need for and assist with the documentation of processes and procedures.

•         Proficiency with problem management, change management and asset management systems.

•         Keep current with the latest virtual technology trends and innovations to meet the client’s requirements

•         Know the “best practices” when providing a solution to the client

•         Vendor will perform an initial health check of the current environment. Health check procedure will be provided by the vendor.

•         Customer will provide a set of goals and action items to Vendor resource to keep the engagement moving forward at an acceptable timeline.

•         Vendor will meet with the Customer on a regular basis to determine status of outstanding action items to keep the project on track.

•         Customer will provide secure remote access for Vendor for offsite support, when necessary

•         Vendor will assist in the migration of user accounts from the older Juniper appliances to the newer PulseSecure appliances.

•         Vendor will assist in decommissioning the older Juniper appliances.

•         Cross-train designated members of the CNP staff on the administration and maintenance of the VPN and MFA system.

•         Create architectural and operational documentation on the PulseSecure VPN environment and how it connects to the CA MFA solution.

•         Setup and lead knowledge transfer sessions to help transition designated CNP staff to supporting the environment.
