JOB SUMMARY FOR THE TECHNICAL WRITER –

The purpose of the Technical Writing - Dev role is to create effective internal documentation to enhance and support a variety of processes and standards used by our Research & Development teams. This includes gathering and analyzing requirements in support of developer processes, business cases, and systems requirements. The individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to relay complex information to a technical audience. Should have experience documenting Cloud-based or SaaS products, along with knowledge of coding languages and associated development practices.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities of the Technical Writer:

  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to document technical requirements, systems capabilities, and development practices in the established CMS
  • Plan and prioritize daily documentation activities for self, and potentially others, based on the development plan
  • Gather requirements through studying functional specifications and interacting with other Technical Writers, Developers, Business Analysts, and R&D team members
  • Create process flows, diagrams, and other visuals as needed to best enhance the documented information
  • Able to successfully tackle any documentation project with minimal direction/supervision
  • Adhere to all styles, standards, and frameworks established for the documentation/Online Help content.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TECHNICAL WRITER

  • 5 -7+ years of experience in Technical Writing and creating information systems for enterprise-level software or web-based products.
  • Familiar with at least one coding language and common development practices in an Agile environment.
  • Knowledge and experience documenting REST services, APIs, and SDKs for web-based products.
  • 2+ years of experience using Confluence or similar CMS.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TECHNICAL WRITER

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Experience with Information Mapping and translating requirements to logical information structure
  • Experience with Agile-based Project Management methodologies
  • Experience documenting Process Flows using Microsoft Visio, or similar applications
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Be highly self-motivated, self-directed, and results-driven
  • Capable of working independently
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and nonverbal skills
  • Logical and efficient when working with teams or self-paced
  • Keen attention to detail demonstrated in written work
  • Experience working in a team-based, collaborative environment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TECHNICAL WRITER

  • Bachelors or foreign equivalent degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical or business field.
