DISYS has an immediate opportunity for a Technical Writer who will write descriptive manuals and guides for complex subjects for our premier aerospace customer. Technical Writer duties include researching topics, writing documents, and editing final work for publication.
The Technical Writer will:

  • Maintain schedules and attend meetings to share and deliver work products per outlined needs by the customer and/or Tech Writer Lead

  • Implement methods to ensure products are developed for high utility along with maintaining relevancy

  • Attend development meetings to produce documented processes from outdated or non-existent documentation

  • Maintain access control, audience involvement, draft controls, signoff, and other controls to ensure document products are managed in an expected manner

  • Have a solid background in process engineering principles focused on IT services and solutions

  • Review current documentation to gain a deep understanding of organizational policies and procedures - to include but not limited to OMS artifacts (CONOPS, etc.)

  • Maintain communication formats and processes that support needs such as burn down deployments, reporting on operational topics and other identified internal needs

  • Interview key stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to develop, organize, and write procedural manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation

  • Maintain user-friendly content from the information learned / obtained. Content is to be accurate and detailed, yet in a simple, polished, and engaging format

  • Maintain detailed knowledge databases consisting of Process and Procedural Technology focused documentation for both internal and external consumption

  • Maintain and distribute meeting agendas and minutes to internal staff and external clients

  • Maintain departmental documents which may include, but not limited to:

o New Hire Training Manuals, User Guides, "How To's", Checklists, and Self-Help Manuals
o IT processes to ITIL standards. Sample functional areas include Incident, Problem, and Change Management
o Operational procedures and technical reference materials
o Creation of templates for Project Management Office (PMO) in accordance with company standards
o Other documentation to support business needs

  • Reformat content into alternate media formats for maximum usability with a continuity of style across all mediums and style guides

  • Serve as a checkpoint for all client and team facing notes and documentation prior to release / publication

  • Manage updates, revisions, and version control


  • 6+ years' demonstrated industry experience as an effective Technical Writer. Experience in an Information Technology environment preferred

  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex topics

  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, OneNote, Outlook, SharePoint), with the ability to easily manipulate document content and data in both client and cloud versions

  • Comfortable with web-based applications utilizing different browsers (Chrome, Explorer/Edge, Firefox)

  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Attention to detail with ability to write in an explanatory and procedural style for multiple audiences who may not have experience in the topic

  • Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual self-starter

  • Excellent verbal communications skills including the ability to "interview" key subject matter experts and switch the line of questioning to extract detailed information that may not naturally be disclosed during normal conversation. Great listening and recall ability.

  • Ability to accept direction and switch focus with no disruption of productivity

  • Understanding of project management processes, particularly in an Agile environment


  • Ability to improve user experience: design, UI, and help refine content and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content

  • Experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)


  • This is a remote position. Candidate may live and work anywhere in the United States.

This position requires an active Department of Defense security clearance at the SECRET level OR ability to obtain a clearance within a reasonable amount of time for consideration
U.S. citizens only are eligible for a clearance and this position

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism or other relevant field, preferred but not required


  • Submit/Pass a 10-year Dept. of Defense background check, criminal history, drug screening, and fingerprints

  • Valid driver's license/Real-ID with clean driver's history

  • Applicant must have a strong work ethic, be extremely organized and detail-oriented, be a self-starter with excellent time-management, problem solving, and multitasking skills

  • Applicant must have excellent front-facing / face-to-face customer service skills

  • Problem solving skills from active listening to, and educating, customers through resolution and a set of delivery expectations

  • Excellent communication skills (in English), both verbal and written, to articulate details in a professional manager

  • Experience with a ticketing system like ServiceNow a plus
