Job Description for IMS DB/DC DBA

Space Management for IMS databases:

Monitor space usage and alter allocations as necessary for efficient DASD utilization.  Schedule/Build reorganization jobs as necessary to support.

Backup and Recovery Management:

Insure that database image copies are comprehensive and timely as per Service Agreements.  Participate in Disaster Recovery Planning and testing as required.  

Application Support:

In conjunction with Systems Programming, provide support to developers for batch or online transaction issues.

Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting:

Assist in root cause determination for batch or transaction failures. 

Test System Support:

Refresh IMS test system quarterly in coordination with DB2 z/OS DBA by recovering Production image copies to Test databases, and alternative test systems as necessary. 

DBMS and Utility Product Release Support:

Perform Regression testing for new releases of IMS.  Evaluate, test, implement and support third-party IMS utilities.

Data Propagation/Replication:

Provide support for Data Propagator and Classic Data Capture/IBM Infosphere Data Replication (CDC/IIDR) for IMS data.

DBD/PSB/ACB maintenance and support:

Define and gen DBDs, PSBs and ACBs as necessary.  

Database Design Modification and Implementation:

Make database structure changes as needed and promote through test and production environments. Define new databases or data set groups as required including DBRC and Dynamic Allocation definition.

Skill Set Requirements:

TSO/ISPF, MVS JCL, MVS and IMS utilities, VSAM, File Manager, familiarity with COBOL, REXX, automated turnover and job scheduling.

Communication:

Excellent communication skills, able to speak and write clearly to non-technical business stakeholders and occasionally executive management.  Non-native English is fine as long as highly fluent.

Nice to haves:

CDC/IIDR experience, DB2 z/OS, DB2 Connect, IMS Connect, COBOL coding, BMC utilities, ESP, Endevor, IBM Data Studio, DB2AIX, Manufacturing or Automotive Industry experience.
