Title: Principal Engineer 1, Wireless Engineering

Location: Centennial, Colorado 

JOB SUMMARY:
Individual contributor responsible for providing technology leadership in developing wireless access and core network technologies. Responsible primarily for research, development, architecture and hands-on integration of core network telecom and IT equipment for Proof of Concept Technology solutions. Assess vendor PoC/forward looking technology solutions to address current and future requirements. Works closely with lab engineers on proof of concept trials, test plans and results. Works with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. Recognized as the technical and design expert. Obtains technical leadership skills and advises team leaders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Responsible primarily for the research, development, hands-on integration and evaluation of early stage core network related infrastructure and products, collaborating with the Engineering and Product Development organizations, vendors, MSO partners and standards and policy organizations. Will drive proof of concept solution creation with main focus on the telecom and IT core equipment.
• Assess new product requirements, develop technology and architecture solutions and evaluate performance.
• Produces Technical Bulletins and other relevant technical documentation to enable handover from proof of concept stage to trial teams / operations to deploy and manage any new wireless network infrastructure. Will provide expertise throughout the handover period by participating to the trials on need basis.
• Responsible for the new technology development and validation to include: Studying new technology trends, impacts of such technologies on wireless strategy and services offering(s), and validating capabilities of such through lab evaluation and possibly field trials.
• Assists in developing a technology evolution roadmap (3-5 years) articulating strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to technology and network infrastructure investments.
• Performs lab evaluation and field trials to validate new concepts in hybrid wireline/wireless solutions.
• Supports strategy to assess the feasibility of new business opportunities for enterprise and industrial domains.
• Contributes to intellectual property creation, patent filing and promotion of such IP through contribution to relevant standards and industry forums.
• Explores/invents new services/use cases for business initiatives.
• Develops innovative solutions for robust in-building wireless connectivity building on existing single or multi- access point deployments.
• Develops carrier-grade IP video and voice delivery solutions and supports new initiatives related to wireless/wireline technologies.
• Help drive innovative technologies and approaches for increasing performance, reliability, and quality of experience for customers.
• Supports other initiatives including improved wireless network security and virtualization of network functions, along with applications supporting potential new services.
• Supports wireless technological development for IoT activities and architectures.
• Analyzes complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommends technical solutions.
• Recommends to Product Development opportunities and approaches to optimize cost, reduce complexity and improve user experience.
• Participates in hardware and software evaluations and maintains vendor contracts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough hands-on knowledge of LTE, EPC, NFV, SDN, MEC, IoT technology and familiar with 5G/NG architecture, with a clear track record of excellence managing wireless access engineering systems.
• Hands-on experience with a broad range of wireless access technologies including LTE and IoT as well as competency with key networking elements such as routing, switching, and security.
• Able to lead complex projects with a matrix team of engineers at junior and senior levels across different organizations.
• Strong technology expertise, proven leadership skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, superb technical skills, and a strong customer-service orientation.
• Familiarity with the wireless gateway and router designs and roadmap plans for major U.S. operators
• Proven track record on hands-on development of proof of concept solutions and LIVE demonstrations to technical and CxO level personnel.
• Practical expertise in architecting proof of concept IT network architecture and ability for implementing/configuring IT core network elements.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management
• Ability to manage and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
• Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
• Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and electronically
• Demonstrated project management experience

Education:
BSEE/Master’s in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent; MBA preferred.
Industry and vendor specific certifications and training

Related Work Experience:
10+ years of engineering work experience
