JOB SUMMARY

The Wireless Access Engineering Architect is responsible for the development of new wireless solutions for residential and SMB products. In this role, you will work closely with technology vendors, standards bodies, and key business stakeholders, i.e. Product Engineering, Advanced Engineering, and Operations to drive innovative solutions into the wireless access ecosystem to deliver next-generation wireless products and technologies.

 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary responsibles include, defining technical requirements, presenting technical solutions to leadership, evaluating multi-vendor solutions, creating innovative proof-of-concepts, and drive new technologies and products into the network.
  • Responsible for new technology development and validation to include: studying new technology trends, formulating impact statement of such technologies on our client's wireless technology strategy and services offering, validating the capabilities of such technologies through lab evaluation and possibly field trials.
  • Develops a long-term technology evolution roadmap (3-5 years) articulating the strategic decision points, technology evolution plan and recommendations with regard to technology and network infrastructure investments.
  • Works hands-on in the lab to implement best-in-class testing tools and test methodologies.
  • Assesses new Product initiatives to define and document the technology architecture,  technical requirements, and design to implment them.
  • Intellectual Property creation, patent filing and promotion of such IP through the contribution to relevant standards and industry forums.
  • Provides a robust wireless connectivity experience around the home through the use of a single access-point or multi-AP managed solution.
  • Monitors, detects, and remediates WiFi related issues using RRM/SON (Radio Resource Management/Self-Organizing Network) solutions.
  • Develops Carrier grade Video over WiFi solutions and supports new initiatives related to WiFi First, Hotspot 2.0, and other mobile roaming efforts.
  • Develops new innovative technologies and approaches (802.11ad/ay, IoT, Mesh Network, and others) for increasing the performance, reliability, and QoE (Quality of Experience) for customers, while driving down the CPE cost. 
  • Supports software initiatives that include improving network security, virus detection, and virtualization of network functions, along with new applications running on the Router to support new services that Product may request.
  • Supports efforts related to RDK-B, OpenWRT, and CableLabs initiatives of interest.
  • Contributes and represents our client in relevant industry and standards forums such as: the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), CableLabs, IEEE, WiFi Alliance (WFA), CableWiFi MSO Alliance, etc.
  • Produces detailed technology roadmaps and timelines that align with strategic direction.
  • Reviews all designs, code and unit test plans.
  • Reviews and assesses business requirements to align the technical requirements and technology development.
  • Provides technology and solution recommendations to Product Development organization with the objective of optimizing cost, reducing complexity, improving user experience, and driving innovative solutions to our customers.
  • Participates, and often leads, all vendor hardware and software evaluations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge in wireless radio access technologies including WiFi, 4G-LTE, familiar with 5G and a clear track record of excellence managing the wireless access engineering systems within an organization of a well-known media brand.
  • Hands-on experience with a broad range of wireless access technologies including 802.11, 4G-LTE, and IoT as well as competency with key networking elements such as routing, switching, and security.
  • Ability to lead complex projects working with a matrix team of hardware and software development engineers at junior and senior levels across the different Engineering Organizations.
  • Strong technology expertise, proven leadership skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong technical skills, and customer-service orientation.
  • Familiarity with the CPE Wireless Gateway and Router designs and roadmap plans for all major Operators in the U.S.
  • Experience with 802.11, IoT, and/or LTE radio technologies.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management
  • Ability to manage and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and electronically
  • Demonstrated project management experience

Education

  • BSEE in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent; MBA preferred.
