JOB SUMMARY:

Participates as a Clinical Informatics team member focusing on Ambulatory projects (to include physician efficiency, patient engagement, Value-based metrics, Payment transformation, patient access and referrals management).  Assists with the coordination, implementation and evaluation of ambulatory clinical informatics activities in accordance with department’s goals and objectives and mission of the Hospital.  Serves as a resource for Medical Staff and Medical System Ambulatory departments for assessing and planning clinical informatics or health information technology needs. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care. The clinical Informaticist provides leadership for planning, implementing, and evaluating the hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic medical record and clinical informatics activities.
  • Specific projects to include physician efficiency, patient engagement, value-based metrics, Payment transformation, EHR transition, patient access and referrals management
  • Collects comprehensive data, information, knowledge in a systematic and on-going process, such as with a needs assessment to refine the issue or problem, or with workflow analyses to examine current practice, workflow, and the potential impact of an informatics solution on that workflow.
  • Prioritizes data collection activities based on the immediate or anticipated needs of the Ambulatory operational and strategic needs. 
  • Uses appropriate evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments in collecting pertinent data to define the issue or problems.
  • Uses analytical models and assessment tools that facilitate problem solving.
  • Provides input on computer software/hardware programs and recommends future versions or local enhancements.
  • Assesses the impact and overall functioning of computer applications on patient care and clinical staff.
  • Recommends new systems or changes to existing systems.
  • Uses clinical informatics principles and methodologies in a manner that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, rights and remains within legal and regulatory parameters.   
  • Participates in clinical informatics activities and works collaboratively with multiple groups to include QCIPN, Ambulatory Operations, and the IT teams.
  • Responsible and accountable for tracking unresolved issues; facilitates resolution of issues; identifies specific needs in areas assigned, compiles reports as required;   makes recommendations.  
  • Provides input, constructive feedback on performance evaluations/peer reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree in Nursing highly desirable / Graduate degree in informatics, Preferred
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Certifications in informatics, Preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of (2) years clinical experience required (experience in primary care highly desirable).
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with electronic medical records (preferably Epic), clinical informatics, computer word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Experience working with clinical informatics projects, understanding of clinical operations, including experience with Electronic Medical/Health Record Systems (EMR/EHR) and data (preferably Epic).
  • Experience with health care regulatory and Ambulatory quality measurements frameworks such as NCQA HEDIS, Meaningful Use, PQRS, MIPS, etc.
